I had the pleasure of joining Michelle and John's families as they celebrated the wedding of Michelle and John at the registry office in Sunderland. Together with their 6 month old daughter they looked lovely - Michelle arrived via the lift and the ceremony was held in the Mowbray Suite - which was a lovely light filled space, and had a very relaxed feel to it. They held their reception at Gosforth Social club.

Brief Guide to Weddings at Sunderland Registry Office:

ParkingThe register office is located within Sunderland civic centre and parking is available in the multistory car park below. in the civic centre car park is £1.20 per hour - pay in advance, and the postcode for satnav is SR2 7SN.

Once parked, it can be quite confusing to know which building entrance to use - however if you tell guests to look for the "Bereavement & Registration Services and HM Coroner's entrance", they will get to the right place, and from here there is a large sign saying "Ceremony Suite" above the entrance you need.

There are a lot of steps. A lot! There is also a lift, which enters the building just next to the ceremony room on the south side of the building, off Burdon Road (outside which wedding cars can pull up).

There are three rooms to choose from for your ceremony - these range from space for 2-50 guests. (The wedding photographed above was held in the Mowbray Suite). There is a waiting room with seating, and toilets just outside the rooms.

The outside of the registry office is not a typically beautiful building, however there could be some interesting compositions with the steps and interesting lines of the buildings.

For more picturesque photos - Mowbray Park is just over the road. There is a bridge from the outside of the registry office which takes you straight to the park.
