The Principal York - Wedding Photography

Updated: Dec 22, 2019

“Emma was perfect on our special day... We had frequent email contact and a really helpful Skype call where we went through all the things that were important to us for our photographs.

On the day I barely knew Emma was there! We've got so many lovely photos that I wasn't expecting and it was really lovely to look through them all. She also took fantastic family photos that we had asked for, which we will treasure forever.

Thank you Emma for our amazing photos, we are so so happy with them!”

On a bitterly cold morning I made the journey down to York from County Durham to photograph the stunning, and loving wedding of Rebecca and David. The ceremony venue of The Principal, York is right next to the train station in the city centre.

Due to the ridiculously snowy weather in February, we decided it would be more comfortable to meet on Skype to discuss the details of the wedding. With only 1 set of headphones between them, David very politely let Rebecca do the listening - we went through the outline of the day and worked out a list of formal group shots.

I arrived at Rebecca's parent's house in the morning while hair and make-up were being done. The family cat was being looked after elsewhere, but the rest of the family were all present and quickly prepped.

I left before the bridesmaids and made the familiar drive across York (I grew up in this city, and it’s still my favourite place to visit). I parked up at the nearby train station and instantly regretted not wearing a full ski suit. It was so cold!

What a lovely warm and splendid welcome into the hotel - guests were all gathering at the grand staircase before being ushered into the ceremony room.

The ceremony went without a hitch (apart from a little confusion from Rebecca’s sister about which aisle to walk down), and everyone looked stunning.

With the ridiculously cold wind hammering against the doors, we decided to do the formal photos on the first floor stair well. The stairs are lovely and the windows above let in plenty of light.

I think the warmth of the hotel fooled Rebecca and David as they seemed happy to go outside for a few photos of just the two of them - within minutes we were all freezing, and rushed back into the hotel!

The doughnut wall was a big hit, and the speeches were emotional - the best kind!

During the wedding breakfast the snow finally fell. It made the welcoming hotel feel even more welcoming, and although tired after a long day, I was a little reluctant to leave!

Perfectly located for out of town guests, the Principal Hotel is right next to York train station. It is a fantastically grand hotel with an amazing bridal suite and grounds complete with a view of the minster.

Fantastic venue, and fantastic couple - I wish them all the best for their life together.
